Origami 折纸

Origami is an art form that transforms paper into intricate shapes through precise calculations of angles and folding techniques. It is not only artistic but also involves mathematical and geometric principles, allowing for the creation of highly detailed designs. Originating in Japan, origami has been widely adopted around the world. Renowned Japanese designer Issey Miyake has created numerous art pieces inspired by origami, incorporating its elements into fashion and architecture, showcasing the endless possibilities of origami in contemporary art. Combining science and art, origami's folds are carefully calculated, reflecting the aesthetic of geometric forms and spatial structures.

Crease Design

Typically, creases in origami are classified into two types: mountain folds and valley folds. A mountain crease occurs when the fold creates a peak, with the crease line on top, while a valley crease creates a depression, with the crease line on the bottom. By calculating the folding angles, one can generate a crease pattern and the corresponding flat-folded diagram. However, the charm of origami lies in the free transformation of shapes after folding, creating an aesthetic effect of rotating light and shadows in three-dimensional space. 。

Icarus's Wings

Icarus, a figure from Greek mythology, used wings designed by his father Daedalus to fly toward the sun. However, he flew too high, causing the sun to melt the wax holding the wings together, and ultimately fell into the sea. This story inspired the design of Icarus' wings, using origami elements to create the wing structure. By carefully calculating folds and angles, the wings were designed with a streamlined shape and smooth shoulder transitions. The twisting angles simulate the dynamic movement of the wings in flight, embodying the power and freedom of flight while creating an aesthetic interplay of light and shadow.

Origami Patterns

To achieve a dynamic and flexible structure, every part of the origami design has been meticulously crafted to ensure the wings maintain a sense of lightness during movement. The geometric forms of the origami allow the wings to effectively support weight, ensuring they are not too heavy or awkward when worn. During the design process, the folds and layering techniques of origami were used to express the dynamic transformation of the wings—from unfolding to folding—creating different visual effects with each fold. The design of a single wing serves as a profound reflection on the story of Icarus, subtly alluding to the melting of the wings.
